Support the Birth of the Acid Western—Grab a Devil’s Mistress Tee!

These limited-edition Devil’s Mistress tees are hand-dyed and screen-printed by Depress Press in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Each one is totally unique and thoughtfully made. Proceeds from every sale go directly toward completing Birth of the Acid Western, a documentary about Orville Wanzer—NMSU English professor turned pioneering filmmaker—who wrote and directed The Devil’s Mistress, the first fully independent regional film to go to Hollywood in New Mexico and possibly the United States.

Premiering at the Rio Grande Theatre in 1965, The Devil’s Mistress was distributed to 100 Fox Theatres nationwide. Birth of the Acid Western explores Wanzer’s lost-occult Western as an early “acid Western,” and places it in the wider context of the western genre and New Mexico’s cinematic and countercultural history—from silent era films by Tom Mix and Romaine Fielding, to Hang 'Em High [1966], filmed in Las Cruces and starring Clint Eastwood (with Wanzer’s involvement), to Robert Downey Sr.’s Greaser’s Palace [1978].

Purchasing a tee helps fund the final stages of production and post-production. Get yours today and be a part of this untold story in American film history.
